DIY Cologne Creations
Think about that person in your life for whom gift buying is especially challenging. We all seem to know one; and they seem to already possess everything they could possibly want! Think about the men you know in particular who fit this description. Maybe he really does have everything he could want, or perhaps his tastes are so specific that it’s notoriously tough to nail down what to gift him. Have you considered using the resources you already have at your fingertips – namely, your dōTERRA collection – to create a homemade and heartfelt present just for him? Read on for two recipes, one spicy and one musky, that may hold the key to gift-giving inspiration!
Store-bought colognes typically contain both alcohol and synthetic fragrances, neither of which appear in the following recipes. Why rely on a fragrance produced in a laboratory when you have access to your own aromatically rich and vibrant dōTERRA essential oils? We’ll discuss recipes for just two scents here, but you’ll quickly get creative making your own combinations once you get the hang of it.
For this do-it-yourself project, you’ll first need to get out your trusty bottle of Fractionated Coconut Oil, a dropper, and a stash of 10 mL roller bottles. Oil-saving tip: To see if you like the scent, make a small sample first. If you like it, you can then make a larger batch. We all want to conserve those precious drops! If you’re creating this blend for a particular person in your life, enjoy thinking about their unique personality and what aromas might characterize them. Keep in mind that musk is by definition strong and sweet-smelling. So here we go: pick your recipe, then follow the directions with your ingredients of choice!
10 drops Clove
20 drops Siberian Fir
40 drops Bergamot
5 drops Lemon
28 drops Cinnamon Bark
12 drops Rosemary
12 drops Wild Orange
Place all essential oils in empty 10 mL roller bottle. Add Fractionated Coconut Oil to fill remainder of bottle. Attach roll-on cap and shake until combined. Let mixture sit for 24 hours before use. Apply cologne to wrists for best results.
Other oils to consider include Cassia, Peppermint, Grapefruit, Basil, Cypress, Sandalwood, and Wintergreen. Coming up with a unique name for your mixture may be one of the best parts! The holiday spirit could even inspire you to create personalized scents for each of the special men in your life – fathers, husbands, brothers, sons, and friends. Once these special guys discover the world of benefits hidden in that roller bottle, they may find themselves more attached to their cologne than ever before…and suddenly interested in those essential oils you’ve been telling them about!
